The scope of this award is to demonstrate a distributed intelligent load control as a low cost method of facilitating increased renewable penetration on isolated grids. The project will create a frequency controlled system using residential electric thermal devices and a 3-phase balancing unit as a load regulation device for the high-penetration wind-diesel system in Tuntutuliak, Alaska. At the conclusion of the project, a report will be prepared that documents the ability of the units to regulate system frequency, assess the system cost and value, and potential for commercialization.
