Scope of Work:  The scope of work for this award is to test and demonstrate the potential for ground source heat pumps (GSHPs) in cold climates to expand the range of efficient, clean space heating options for Alaskans. A GSHP system will be installed at the CCHRC Research and Testing Facility (RTF) in Fairbanks. The GSHP will displace an oil-fired boiler that currently heats the eastern half of the facility and will provide space heating for approximately 5,000 square feet via low-temperature hydronic distribution.
