Scope of Work:  Up to $425,000 of this award will be used for the purchase, installation, and testing of a 500 kW Premium Power battery in Kotzebue, Alaska by Kotzebue Electric Association (KEA), which will be integrated into the current wind-diesel system. The remaining $75,000 will be used for research and reporting on near commercial battery technologies currently being developed and the testing of a 5 kW Prudent Energy battery system at ACEP’s laboratory in Fairbanks, Alaska for 6 months. After testing, this battery will be placed in an as yet undetermined community for long term testing and monitoring. The Prudent Energy battery will be purchased by UAF and the $75,000 allocated in this grant will provide for software, power, and personnel for testing.
